Depression and anxiety can be some of the most common and uncomfortable symptoms that we experience at some point in our lives. While they are uncomfortable, they are also valuable signals because they give us information about our needs. Through therapy, I can help you discover perspective about these symptoms so can reach your desired emotional state.
Trauma is becoming more widely discussed and diagnosed. It is recognized in two main categories: Big T and Little t. Big T or shock trauma is the result of a shocking event such as a death of a loved one, war, or car accident. Little t trauma, also known as complex trauma, is the result of chronic and ongoing disruptive experiences such as abuse, neglect, bullying or stress at work. Trauma, whether big T or little t, is complex and is often compounded with other disorders such as substance use, gambling, avoidance, interpersonal difficulty, sex addiction, and eating disorders etc. My intention as your therapist is to create a safe space for the complexity so that we can support your healing. I do this by using a cutting edge model called NARM specifically designed to address Complex Trauma.
Substance Use Disorders impact people of various ages and at varying levels of severity. In an outpatient setting, I can support people with their recovery goals on the mild to moderate level of severity only. People who are struggling with severe substance use should seek medical care prior to attending outpatient care for safety reasons. If you are unsure about your level of severity, I'm more than happy to do a 15 minute consult via telephone. You can also contact the County of Sonoma for more information about substance use services here.
